How to Cancel AOL Online

As of July 2007, AOL can be canceled online with a form kept on cancel.aol.com or you can visit Keyword: My Account to change your price plan to free. If you want to call or write AOL, you can find AOL's phone numbers and contact info here.
How to Use AOL's Online Cancellation Form
- Sign into AOL.com or My Screen Name at AOL, then type cancel.aol.com into your browser's address bar and press "Enter" on your keyboard or the "Go" button in your browser (no need to type "www" or "http(s)" before the link name).
- Your browser will go to the Billing at AOL/Change Plan page. It's a page where you can change or upgrade your account, not cancel it, but canceling your account is shown among some questions (FAQs) on the right hand side of the page. Clicking a question brings you to the correct answer. You can click on the picture below to see what I'm talking about.
AOL has made the consumer-unfriendly choice of using Javascript on that page so there is no link to any of the FAQ answers.
- Frequently Asked Question #4 is, "How do I cancel my paid member account or convert it to a free account?" Move your mouse over that question and click on it.
Make sure you have Javascript enabled (turned on) in your browser before you click the link, otherwise you might not be brought to the correct answer.
- A long white page will open like a pop up. The second paragraph says, "Click here to send an electronic Cancellation of Paid Membership or Conversion to Free Service request." Click on the word "here" in that sentence. Your browser will now go to AOL's online cancel form.
- Notice at the bottom of the sample online cancel form below that I placed a checkmark next to the line that says: "If you do not want your account to be converted for free, or if you want to cancel your account, check here." You'll need to check that box to completely cancel your own account. You can click on the picture below to see what I'm talking about.
- If you want to use AOL for free after you check that box, you'll need to create a new screen name.
